Louis and Samantha - on the wide blue yonder

After leaving South Africa in 1992, Louis and Samantha embarked on a lifestyle that would be the envy of many. Sailing in the Caribbean, they soon realized that it was an experience that they would like to share with others. They started chartering and soon their one yacht grew both and size and number, sail and motor-yachts.

Whilst Louis is an experienced Captain, Samantha's exposure to all things nautical had been limited to Sunday lunch at the Yacht Club. Samantha on the upper aft deck of Papagallo Literally thrown into the deep-end, and notwithstanding her issue with "mal de mer", Sam soon made her mark in the galley, conjuring up, as if by magic, exotic dishes whilst anchored in remote bays and even under way". Without exception, their guests who came from around the world, were unstinting in their praise of not only her culinary acomplishments but also the hospitality that they enjoyed. Her rum-punches on "papagallo" became legendary.

Thank you so very much for your gracious hospitality, your outstanding culinary orchestration, and your superb seamanship. MV Papagallo off the coast of VenezuelaDen and I were very lucky to have been placed in your care. Your serene and sunny dispositions truly smoothed away any bad weather. I will look back on the time with you with fond memories and more than a bit of longing for the sublime simplicity, though I realize this was only an illusion made possible by your work and talents.

The Rhyme of the (Not so) Ancient Mariner
- with apologies to Coleridge

Samantha on the helm and Louis with a strikeThe sun is up and the squalls quite near
But on Louis' 'ship' you need never fear,
For there on the helm - Louis looks cool
A tight ship is run, its always the rule.
Down in the galley Sam's working away,
"Rum punch all around?" she'll pop up to say.
Delicious aromas then fill the night air;
Such gourmet delights are not rare
they're our standard fare!
With sandy beaches and clear seas of blue,
The sights we saw were amazing to view.
We'll always remember this wonderful time,
and thank you sincerely with this little 'rhyme'.

Louis n the helm on a sailboat in the Caribbean Dear Louis and Sam
We came with secret dreams and high expectations - these were exceeded. What a joy to share superb sailing, wonderful food and intelligent conversation. The yacht was immaculate - a pleasure to live and sail on. This, our 25th wedding anniversary, will be the high standard by which all future vacations will be measured. Thank you for your generous hospitality, and great good humor. Next time . . ? We're already planning ! Remember, you will always have a place to stay in Montana.
